The Traveller – 2012

At the end of 2011 I had everything a 20-something year old guy could ask for. A decent job, close friends, a fast car and a swanky pad. Yet there was a yearning for something more, something more exciting. I gave it all up to go on the adventure of a lifetime. I handed in my resignation, said goodbye to my closest mates / family and jumped on a plane that took me to the other side of the world. I was a solo traveller. All I had with me was a backpack, a few clothes, a passport and a Nintendo 3DS.

Sixteen months later I returned back to the British Isles and made the city of Bristol my home. It may sound cliché but I had the most life changing experience. I am no longer the naive boy who landed alone in Beijing all those years ago. Though I will never give up the thirst for knowledge or will I shy away from self-improvement. Life is a continual journey of experiencing everything it has to offer.

My name is Ryan Lailvaux. This blog is a record of everything I encounter on my travels and in life. Hopefully my enlightening and embarrassing moments will provide you with some form of entertainment. Welcome.
